Step by Step guide to a quick Zoom makeup

We are spending more time at home if not all our time at home. Working from home is becoming the norm and will certainly continue in the near future.  So how do we keep looking professional but not overly made up for those important business meeting Zoom calls?

When you thought it was a phone call but it’s actually a Zoom call. Here is my step by step guide to creating a 5-minute minimal makeup look.

First tip if you can sit facing the light whether you have a ring light or its natural daylight sit facing the light and your laptop in front of you. If the light is behind you it will create dark shadows on your face which no matter how much makeup you wear will never be covered up.

Top Tips for a quick Zoom Makeup in 7 easy steps.

Step 1.

Moisturise

Skincare is an essential first step to any makeup look. Use a good moisturiser this will add luminosity to your skin. Even before applying any makeup, it’s a great canvas for the rest of your makeup. I always apply a lip balm at this point as well so it can sink in and get to work whilst you apply the rest of your makeup.

My Top Pick is the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm £19.50 the most hydrating lip balm I have used and will boost shine and soften your skin.

My top pick is the Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Moisturiser Cream £57.

Step 2.

Foundation:

My next step would normally be a primer but as this is a quick look for Zoom you can skip on the primer and prep the skin with the moisturiser. I go straight in with a foundation a light coverage will be Ok as the camera on a laptop does not pick up small detail.

My top pick is the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter £34 it’s lightweight and has a blurring effect perfect for the camera and takes seconds to apply great when you thought it was a phone call now it’s a Zoom meeting!

Step 3.

Concealer:

This is the most important step for minimal makeup.  Use the concealer to cover any imperfections and your finger or a beauty blender to apply. Apply under the eye around the nose and chin and smile lines to brighten your complexion. Add to the inner corner of the eye this will instantly brighten.

My Top Pick Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer £24

Step 4.

Powder

I suggest applying a light dusting of powder to set the foundation and concealer. It will just create a soft finish ready so the rest of the makeup goes on smoothly and stops you from looking shiny from the harsh lights.

MY Top Pick Laura Mercier Translucent Powder £32 is a fine powder easily absorbed onto the skin.

Step 5.

Blusher

Face time and Zoom can make you look washed out because of the harsh light. Apply a blusher that’s brighter than you would normally go for to give you a pop of colour. Adding a peach or pink tone will add warmth to your cheeks and bring back the colour after you have added the foundation and concealer. Tap the brush to remove excess product so as not to apply too much as it’s a stronger colour than you would normally go for.

My Top Pick Nars Claudette Cheek Duo – Croisette and Ninotchka £37

Step 6.

Mascara.

Curl your lashes it will give you definition and lift before you put on your mascara I love Surats. It will make your eyes appear brighter as well which is great on camera.

Mascara is a personal choice as we all like to wear mascara and like to define our lashes differently.  Go to your Zoom set up and apply mascara there so you can see how your makeup is looking on-screen and you can decide how heavy to go.

My Top Pick MAC Extended Play Lash Mascara. £16

Step 7.

Lipstick

For the lipstick, you want something quick and easy that you can just swipe on with not too much precision. Moisturising lipstick is perfect.

Choose a lipstick with a bit of colour and not too neutral so it brightens up your look as you only have mascara on the eye and a cheek colour.

My Top Pick MAC Flamingo Lipstick £17.50 which is peachy so will compliment your lip colour without having a blue undertone which some lipsticks can.
